St. Anne Parish Gilbert St. Anne Roman Catholic Parish Church Gilbert, Arizona

Welcome!

At St. Anne Roman Catholic Parish, our mission is to submit to the will of God with the phrase "Fiat Voluntas Tua!" as our guiding principle. We are dedicated to keeping Christ at the center of our parish life through our shared celebrations of the holy Eucharist and devotion to our Blessed Mother. Our community is composed of families and individuals from different stages in their faith journey, united by our commitment to loving God and each other.

As a universal Church, St. Anne embraces diverse communities, including our Byzantine and Latin-rite brothers and sisters, who share a universal love for Christ. We invite everyone to fully participate in the same church that Jesus himself established for his followers.

St. Anne is a place for everyone, from youth and children to those new to their faith, as well as those who have been part of the Church their whole lives. Our community is dedicated to supporting one another and placing Christ at the center of everything we do.

History:

In 1936, Father Vincent Mastres celebrated the first Mass at a small adobe mission church in Gilbert, Arizona. The church was built with a $3,000 donation from the Catholic Church Extension of Chicago, and it could hold up to seventy people. Sunday Masses were celebrated by the administrator Father Joseph Patterson, and the church served as a mission of St. Mary Parish in Chandler. In 1943, the mission became St. Anne Parish with its own pastor, Father Godfrey Fontaine, and Dominican Sisters from Michigan arrived in 1948 to establish a school for kindergarten through 4th Grade.

After thirty-five years of faithful service, the old adobe church was replaced by a 220-person capacity church that cost $80,000 and was dedicated on August 1, 1971, by Bishop Edward McCarthy. In 1985, Father Raul Morales organized a building fund campaign to construct a new church at a different location, which was dedicated on April 30, 1989 by Bishop Thomas O'Brien.

Father Stephen Adrian arrived in 1986 and served as Associate Pastor until his peaceful passing in 2013 at the age of 101. Father Douglas Lorig became the new pastor in 1989 and initiated perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in 1993 by converting his office space into an Adoration Chapel. Under Father Lorig's leadership, the present church was built and dedicated on April 21, 1998, by Bishop Thomas O'Brien. The parish grew to over 4,500 registered families, and many ministries were established, including Hispanic ministries that were supported by Carmelite sisters from Mexico.

In 2003, Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted was installed as the new Bishop of the Diocese of Phoenix, and Father Gregory Schlarb succeeded Father Lorig in 2006. Our current pastor, Father Keith Kenney , arrived in 2022. In 2014, the parish celebrated its 70th year as a parish, and we continue our mission of the New Evangelization with the guidance and providence of the Lord and the motherly care of Our Lady and the saints.
